I am all about investing in maternity clothes that you can keep wearing after baby arrives! If you’re like me, its hard to justify buying something that you will only use for a couple months. I try to find maternity outfits that (as much as possible) are not lost to me after baby comes.
When your’e expecting a baby its important to feel cute! Our bodies change a LOT and it can be hard to not feel like yourself. So investing in maternity clothes that you feel cute in is something I totally recommend. But even better is when those cute clothes keep giving even after the belly is gone!
Maternity Shirts that Work Postpartum
First of all, this will vary based on how big your belly gets. With my first baby I just used my regular shirts and as I got closer to my due date, wore lots of loose shirts and t-shirts. Second baby I got bigger and got bigger faster. I invested in 6 maternity shirts and just had a very repetitive wardrobe for 3 months. But I can still wear every single one of those AND look cute post baby. A great investment!
What you want to look for are shirts that are longer. This allows them to stretch and cover your belly while pregnant. It also means that once the belly is gone, the shirt just looks like a long shirt. Pretty nice!
SHEIN Maternity Shirts
I tried buying maternity shirts off Shein but only liked and kept one of them. It is so cute, and I still wear it all the time!

Maybe you will have better luck than me there though! They have lots of styles that stay cute Postpartum. Babydoll style (empire waist), stripes, and long shirts are going to be your go-to.
Amazon Maternity Shirts
Amazon was where I scored my final 5 favorites. They had high quality and COMFY shirts. Comfy is a must when pregnant for me. Everything else about pregnancy is so uncomfortable, so my shirts are not allowed to be.
The shirts I bought from Amazon were not actually labeled as almaternoty shirts either! (So they were more budget friendly). They were stretchy and long though and worked perfectly all the way through 39 weeks of pregnant belly.
The frist style was so comfortble and soft. This works great as a maternity shirt bwcause of its length anf stretch. Tons of color options and sizes to choose from. I usually wear a size small or medium and found medium was perfect both during pregnancy and after. I loved it so much I bought 3 colors of this shirt:

And then I also needed some patterns in my wardrobe. So true to my recommendation of stripes, I bough one of these. I loved the red color detail. Such a fun buy. And SO COMFORTABLE.
Its a nice thick fabric with incredible stretch. Seriously its perfect for maternity wear AND isn’t loose fitting Postpartum either. Thank heaven for stretch fabric!

Maternity Pants that Work Postpartum
These are few and far between. BUT I do have one pair and I have to share with you!
The problem you run into here is the stretchy belly part of maternity pants does literally nothing to keep your pants up if you no longer have your belly.
So the maternity pants that have life after pregnancy will be those that DON’T have your stretchy belly. For example:
High Waisted Yoga Pants or Joggers
I have a pair of black joggers with a high “fold over” waist. I wore them through my entire pregnancy multiple times. From trimester one to delivery date. The high waist gives enough coverage to go up your belly, while the fit works more like an under belly waistband.
Under Belly Pants/Shorts
These are another option that can transition well postpartum. Because they don’t rely on the belly band, they fit more like regular pants once baby arrives.
Maternity Swimsuits
Finding a swimsuit that works both during pregnancy and postpartum can feel tricky, but it’s worth the effort. Look for styles with:
- Stretchy fabric that adapts to your changing body.
- Ruched sides or adjustable ties that allow for belly growth but still look flattering later.
- High-waisted bottoms or tankini styles that give coverage and support postpartum.
Here’s one I love: Amazon Swimsuit Link
The bottoms are over belly, so postpartum they wont have much use, but the top works great while breastfeeding and beyond! And my favorite part is that the sinched sides are flattering as you work to lose baby weight.
Maternity Dresses
Dresses are one of the easiest maternity investments to carry into postpartum. Styles that work well include:
- Empire waist dresses that flatter the bump and still look chic afterward.
- Wrap dresses that adjust to your body and are nursing‑friendly.
- Stretch jersey fabrics that drape beautifully whether you’re pregnant or not.
Here’s one of my favorites: Amazon Nursing Dress Link
This dress is comfortable, versatile, and nursing‑friendly—making it a perfect postpartum staple.
Cute Maternity Outfits
When you want to feel put together, think about pairing:
- A long maternity shirt with leggings and a cardigan.
- A wrap dress with a denim jacket and flats.
- Joggers with a fitted tee and a cozy sweater.
These combinations are comfortable, practical, and still stylish—perfect for the transition into postpartum life.
For “Cozy” Days
Not every day calls for a styled outfit. On cozy days at home, lean into:
- Oversized maternity tees that double as lounge wear.
- Soft joggers or yoga pants that keep you comfortable.
- Stretchy nursing tanks layered under cardigans.
These pieces make recovery days easier while still keeping you feeling good in your clothes.
Final Thoughts
Investing in maternity clothes that last beyond pregnancy is one of the smartest ways to stretch your budget and simplify your wardrobe. Look for versatile fabrics, flattering cuts, and styles that adapt to your body both during and after pregnancy. When you choose pieces that keep working postpartum, you’ll feel confident, comfortable, and cute. Without needing to start from scratch for every stage of motherhood.
